Investments & Savings

Investing in your future and
your family’s future.

Why savings and investments are important

Putting your money into savings and investments is about investing in your future and your family’s future. Why shouldn’t your money work hard for you when you’ve worked hard to earn it?

Making sensible investment choices now should enable you to live the life you want to live now and secure your financial future into retirement.

Where to start with savings and investments?

There are a range of savings and investment options to choose from. Firstly, you should make sure you take advantage of your tax-free savings allowance. There are two types of Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) available to help you do this: cash and stocks and shares. Both allow you to save money free of tax.

Once you’ve used your tax-free savings allowance, you can begin to look at other savings and investment products such as investment bonds, collectives and ethical investments.

When you contact us to speak with an adviser, they will explain the options available and help you make the investment choices that are right for you. We’ll consider your personal circumstances and attitude to risk, as well as how quickly you might need access to your money.

Our wealth management service includes completing all applications and paperwork on your behalf, assistance with transferring between providers, and on-going portfolio management.

Whether you’re unsure what to do with an inheritance lump sum, or you want to save for a deposit on your first home, talk to us, we can help.

The value of your investments can go down as well as up, so you could get back less than you invested.

Savings and Investment options

There are several options when it comes to savings and investments. Learn more about each option below or contact us for further details.

A Cash ISA allows you to save money free of tax. The amount you can save depends on the type of ISA you choose. Cash ISAs can be opened online or via a bank or building society. Benefits and restrictions vary and it’s important to choose the account that’s right for you and your objectives, e.g. if you need access to your money quickly, want to transfer in or lock your money away at a higher rate.

A Stocks and Shares ISA allows you to save money free of tax. Put simply, it’s a ‘wrapper’ that can be put around a range of different investment options to help save you tax. It can include investment options such as unit trusts, corporate bonds, open-ended investment companies (OEICs) and individual stocks and shares. Growth rates and fees vary with each provider, and there is currently a maximum allowance of £20,000 that can be payable into an ISA each year.

There are two types of bonds: investment and distribution funds. Both are suitable if you want to invest a lump sum and are happy to lock your money away for at least five years. Geographic and themed funds for almost every sector are available. Bonds also offer tax efficiencies and allow you to put money into trust. You can choose whether you’d like your bond to provide growth or income, i.e. a set minimum guaranteed income for the life of the plan holder.

Collectives are investments where your money is pooled together with other people and invested in a fund together. A professional fund manager often manages the fund to help you all get the best return on your investment.
